CMHA BC Division conducting an external investigation at CMHA Cowichan Valley Branch
March 12, 2020 – The Canadian Mental Health Association BC Division has started an external investigation into certain complaints made about the Cowichan Valley Branch. The external investigation started on March 2, 2020.
The Cowichan Valley Branch is a separately incorporated society, operating under the CMHA name, providing community-based mental health and substance use services in the Cowichan Valley region.
CMHA Cowichan Valley has been the subject of three recent complaints about its homelessness and housing services and Branch administration.
Public confidence in CMHA’s local services is important, and we take complaints very seriously. The Board of Directors for CMHA Cowichan Valley has asked CMHA BC Division to lead an external investigation into these complaints. An external investigator has been retained and has started their work, with their findings expected early spring 2020.
It is important that the investigation be thorough, fair and external to the Branch so that any findings have the confidence of the people served, community partners, supporters and staff.
Services at the Warmland House shelter, transitional housing, child & youth programs, Sobering Centre, Overdose Prevention Site and BounceBack coaching all continue as usual. The needs of persons involved in the mental health system remain our branch’s primary focus.
Any updates we can share on the investigation will be posted on our website. Please note that we are unable to comment on individual personnel issues.
To report concerns about any CMHA Division or Branch service please email concerns@cmha.bc.ca.
