This scholarship honours the legacy of 16-year-old Andre Courtemanche. Andre was dedicated, strong-willed, and creative, and had many talents and interests. He loved fitness and weightlifting, video games and computers, and camping and hiking. He also loved using his creative talents, like baking and carving, to make and give gifts to his loved ones. Andre also struggled with anxiety and depression.
The Andre Courtemanche Green Ribbon Scholarship was created by Andre’s family in his memory. Andre’s family is passionate about breaking the stigma and silence that surrounds mental illness, and helping to ensure that others get the support they need. This $1000 scholarship is intended to be an investment in young people, to help fuel resiliency and to reduce some of the barriers youth may face in accessing post-secondary training and education. Because of Andre’s keen interest in the trades and his passion for fitness, nutrition and the outdoors, this scholarship will be made available specifically to those enrolled either in post-secondary trades programs (ex. carpentry, cooking, welding) or post-secondary programs relating to fitness, nutrition and the outdoors (ex. sport management, natural sciences).
