Living with a mental health or substance use challenge is hard enough; masking can make it even harder.
The stigma around mental health challenges can lead to people feeling like they need to hide behind a “mask,” to protect themselves from discrimination. The more judgement there is around mental health, the heavier the mask becomes and the more isolated we can feel.
We all have the power to foster safe spaces to talk about mental health and be there for one another, so no one has to struggle alone.
Mental Health Week returns May 5–11, to show the power of open and honest conversations. CMHAs across the country are encouraging people to increase connection, reduce stigma, and create a safer, more supportive society for people to share how they’re really doing.
