BC’s leading mental health non-profit responds to the release of A Pathway to Hope, the Province of BC’s mental health, substance use and addictions 10-year plan
“A Pathway to Hope is a great start at the changes we need to see in BC’s mental health, substance use and addictions care,” said Jonny Morris, CEO of Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), BC Division. “We applaud the shift to mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention, decisions based on evidence and high standards, co-design by people with lived experience, and real progress on wellness basics that drive mental health like income, housing and social connections. More future funding to the system and community, a focused look at the workforce needs, and an implementation plan and targets will help make sure the vision becomes reality.”
“We know that the system needs to move from responding to crises, towards supporting people early in illness, before things get worse. We need to work proactively so people stay healthy in the first place. That is no small shift, but it is imperative we get there, and this plan is a great beginning point.”
“We look forward to supporting the government to build on this plan and measure meaningful progress to ensure that people in BC see real change and get the help they need when they need it.”
CMHA is proud to be a partner in delivering evidence-based, high quality prevention and early intervention programs in community. Programs referenced in the new plan delivered by CMHA include BounceBack®, Confident Parents Thriving Kids, wildfire mental health supports and workplace mental health education.
CMHA is BC’s leading mental health non-profit, promoting mental health for all and the resilience and recovery of people living with mental illness, problem substance use and addictions.
