CMHA BC is proud to be the recipient of the BC Health Care Awards Gold Apple for Top Innovation Affiliate for our Confident Parents: Thriving Kids program, helping BC families thrive.
Presented by the Health Employers Association of BC (HEABC), the BC Health Care Awards honour the best in BC’s publicly funded health care community. The Top Innovation Affiliate award is offered to an HEABC affiliate member that is changing the health field through fresh ideas or innovations that bring tangible results.
Confident Parents: Thriving Kids is a family-focused phone-based coaching service effective in reducing mild to moderate behavioural problems and promoting healthy child development in children ages 3-12.
Through a series of 6 to 14 weekly coaching sessions, along with exercises and workbooks, trained coaches empower parents and/or caregivers to learn effective skills and techniques that support social skills and cooperation in their child.
These techniques are proven to prevent, reduce and reverse the development of mild to moderate behaviour problems that create challenges at home, school and in social settings. Of parents or caregivers who completed the program, 85% reported good or very good improvement in their child’s behaviour.
The innovative phone delivery allows CMHA BC to offer the service to families across the province in the privacy and comfort of their own home. Available evening and weekends, coaching sessions are scheduled at times convenient to them. The program is offered at no cost to families, with funding provided by the Province of British Columbia.
“The team is committed to quality,” says Bev Gutray, CEO of CMHA BC. “When you have a great, evidence-based program it’s all about the execution. They make a difference.”
