The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA) released new guidance in January 2023, to help inform Canadians about the potential health risks associated with drinking alcohol.
This guidance shows that the more alcohol you drink, the greater your risk for injury or illnesses such as cancer, heart disease or stroke. Essentially, drinking less is better for your health, and any reduction in alcohol has benefits.
This guidance is intended to help you understand and reflect on the effects of alcohol on your health, so you can make your own informed decisions.
